Kreuzberger Nights is a song by the German music group Gebrüder Blatt Schuss from 1978. It is their single release, which is highest in the German charts. It is also considered the "unofficial anthem of West Berlin ".

Origin and text

Kreuzberger Nights was written by Beppo Pohlmann and produced by Uli Weigel . The song was actually intended as a parody of mood songs, but in the German-speaking countries itself developed into a hit , drinking, carnival and mood song . Beppo Pohlmann said: "But suddenly we were qualified for the ZDF hit parade , and we didn't want to go there". The band originally played the song as a "bouncer number" at their concerts. Since the musicians were still missing a title for their album Bla-Bla-Blattaufnahme , they resorted to Kreuzberg nights . The lyrics describe how the protagonist first sits alone in a pub, then other people join in and a celebration begins. Some political allusions are also made: "A pensioner shouts: 'You should be ashamed of yourself'!" / Another thinks it's all due to the system / It's as sick as my liver, I say harshly / The twelve semesters were not so completely ... in vain. ”At this point the rhyme that was actually expected is replaced by a more harmless equivalent. The refrain then simply reads: "Kreuzberg nights are long / Kreuzberg nights are long / First they start very slowly / But then, but then."
