Ragana ( German  Kremon ) is a village in Latvia about 50 northeast of Riga . Ragana is the capital of the municipality of Krimulda, which since the administrative reform of 2009 together with the municipality of Lēdurga (dt. Loddiger) forms the administrative district of Krimulda . The village developed around a former post office on the highway from Riga to Dorpat (Estonian Tartu). Ragana's mascot is a witch ( lett. Ragana ).

7 km east of today's Ragana, the Order of the Brothers of the Swords built Cremon Castle in 1231. It was attacked by Russian troops in the Livonian War in 1559 and destroyed in 1601 during a Swedish campaign in the " Time of Troubles " and rebuilt as a castle. In the Great Northern War , Kremon Castle (other spelling: Cremon Castle ) was destroyed. It was rebuilt based on the model of the Northern Italian Villa Rotonda . Until 1817, Kremon Castle was owned by the Helmersen family as the mansion of the Kremon manor (hence the name "Kremon Manor") , and from 1817 to 1921 by the Lieven family .

Between 1922 and 1928, the first state sanatorium for bone tuberculosis was established in the Krimulda manor (that is the Latvian name) on behalf of the Latvian Red Cross. From 1948 to 1991 it housed a primary and secondary school. Between 1991 and 1995 various attempts to restore rehabilitation clinics in the Krimulda mansion failed. a. for children and adolescents. After several years of vacancy, the Rehabilitācijas centrs “Krimulda” GmbH took over the property in 2002 . Krimulda Castle is a listed building.
