The diocese of Vijayawada ( lat. : Dioecesis Viiayavadanus ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Vijayawada .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Mission sui juris Bezwada with the Apostolic Constitution Christi regno on January 10, 1933 from cession of territory by the Diocese of Hyderabad .

On April 13, 1937, she was raised to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Madras as a suffragan diocese. It was given its current name on October 21, 1950. On September 19, 1953, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad.

On December 9, 1976, it lost part of its territory to the diocese of Eluru . On October 16, 2001 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam .
