Krishna Dev Mehra

Krishna Dev Mehra ( Panjabi ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਵ ਮਹਿਰਾ ; * 1907 in Sarsa , British India ; † February 6, 1995 in Bombay , Maharashtra ) was an Indian film director of Punjabi and Hindi films .

Life

Krishna Dev Mehra comes from the village of Sarsa in the Bhiwani district in Haryana today . He started working in the film industry at Roshan Lal Shoreys film company Punjab Film Corporation in Lahore . He moved to Calcutta in 1933 , where he worked as a technical consultant and was involved in the script for Jyotiprasad Agarwala's Assamese film Joymati (1935). Mehra made his film debut as a director with the first sound film in Panjabi: Sheila - also known as Pind Di Kudi - (1935), with which the film career of actress and singer Noor Jehan began. The film was an adaptation of Lev Tolstoy's " Resurrection " and the first big hit of punjabi cinema. It was made in Calcutta with the support of the Madan Theaters as well as the following film Heer Syal .

Mehra moved to Bombay after the partition of India and later worked for Baldev Raj Chopra BR Films.
