Kristmann Guðmundsson

Kristmann Guðmundsson (born October 23, 1901 on Þverfell, Borgarfjörður ; † November 20, 1983 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic writer . His work consists of over 30 romance novels and novels . Along with Gunnar Gunnarsson and Halldór Laxness, he was one of the first internationally known writers in Iceland. Translations of his works exist in 36 languages.

Life

Kristmann was the illegitimate son of a farmer girl and grew up in poverty. Most of his education was self-taught . He was a casual worker and from 1923 a journalist. From 1924 to 1939 he lived mainly in Norway , but also in Austria , England and Denmark . He published the works he created during this time in Norwegian . Its main subjects are obsessive love, hate and fear. The author himself has been married seven times and is an incorrigible philanderer.
