history

In the oldest documents, the name of the place is Chrauninchl , in 1531 it was written as Kranwinkhl . This is proven by the inscription on a tombstone in the parish church of Eching: "Count von Altenpreysing, called Kranwinkhl". The castle, originally called Altenpreysing, is the ancestral seat of the important Preysing family, who have lived in the area since the early Middle Ages . On May 6, 1472 Jörg von Preysing, Herr zu Wolnzach, received the castle as a fief from Abbot Konrad. It has borne the name of the surrounding village of Kronwinkl since the 17th century.

The Hofmark Kronwinkl passed into the possession of the Preysing von Hohenaschau in the 17th century, who were raised to the status of imperial count in 1664 . In the lower castle church of St. Stephan, which was the benefice of the Counts of Preysing from 1471 to 1957 , during the Thirty Years' War in 1632 an enemy soldier from the ranks of the Swedes was seized by count subjects, dragged into the open and killed, despite the granted right of asylum. The church was then neglected and fell into disrepair. The existing church was rebuilt by the family in the late Baroque style and consecrated to St. Stephen on June 3, 1768 .

In 1830, Kronwinkl acquired the Moos line and, after its extinction in 1836, the Preysing-Lichtenegg line. The castle is still the seat of the family of Count Preysing. The municipality of Kronwinkl was incorporated into the municipality of Eching as part of the regional reform on October 1, 1970.
