Location of Krutscheid in Wuppertal

The location of Krutscheid (also in the spelling Krudtscheid , Krutscheidt and Krudtscheidt ) in the Wuppertal district of Vohwinkel goes back to the former Krutscheider Hof. The farm name "Krut" corresponds to the High German word herb and Scheid means border or watershed.

history

It was mentioned for the first time in 1218/31 as a court subject to the Gerresheim monastery (as “ Kruitzit ”, “ Crutscede ”).

The Krutscheider Rebellion occurred in 1545 when farmers from the Krutscheider Höfe rose up against the Duke of Berg after the Turkish tax introduced in 1542 in the fight against the Turks triggered their resentment. The trigger of the rebellion was the unclear affiliation relationships of the Krutscheider Höfe, which counted to a Duchy of Berg and to the Archbishopric of Cologne (which levied no Turkish tax). The conflict probably ended in a compromise; Files on the settlement of the rebellion are missing.

The courtyard was removed between 1892 and 1907 when the route of the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway was widened and the now former Vohwinkel marshalling yard was built on the site .

The Krutscheider Weg , which belongs to the Am Osterholz settlement , was named after this location on July 20, 1981. The Krudtscheider Bach and the nature reserve Dolinengelände Krutscheid also bear its name after the farm.
