Kryptos is an Indian heavy metal band from Bangalore . The band is signed to AFM Records and has released five studio albums.

history

The band was formed in late 1998 by guitarist Nolan Lewis and bassist and singer Ganesh Krishnaswamy. Initially, the band played covers of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin before the musicians started writing their own songs. After several line-up changes, a stable line-up emerged with the second guitarist Ashkay Patel and the drummer Ryan Colaco. In 2004 the debut album Spiral Ascent was released on the band's record label Clandestine Musick. The album cover was designed by dark tranquility guitarist Niklas Sundin .

The band played numerous concerts in their home country and was signed to Old School Metal Records in April 2006. This made Kryptos the first Indian metal band to be signed by an international record company. Bassist Ganesh Krishnaswamy left the band and was replaced by Jayawant Tewari. Nolan Lewis then took over the vocals. In late 2006, the band recorded their second studio album, The Ark of Gemini , which was released two years later.

In 2009 the band appeared at the Rock in India Festival as opening act for Iron Maiden . A year later, Kryptos became the first Indian band to tour Europe. In December 2011 some band members founded the record label Iron Fist Records with musician friends from Bangalore . In February 2012 the third studio album The Coils of Apollyon was released in India. Half a year later, the band was signed by AFM Records, who released the album worldwide in September 2012.

A year later the band toured Europe again and was the first Indian band to play at the Wacken Open Air . After that, bassist Jayawant Tewari and drummer Ryan Colaco left the band. Ganesh Krishnaswamy returned as bassist while Anthony Hoover became the new drummer. The release of the fourth studio album Burn Up the Night is planned for September 23, 2016 .
