Marcel Dähne (born October 24, 1993 in Linz ), better known under his channel and artist name KsFreakWhatElse (mostly abbreviated KsFreak ), is an Austrian web video producer , rapper and influencer with Kosovar-Albanian roots. He currently has over 2.1 million subscribers on the Internet platform YouTube .

life and career

Dähne initially trained as a fitter and also went a summer job in a glass factory to.

He founded his YouTube channel in November 2012. Three years later, he broke the 100,000 subscriber mark. When the number of views and the reach increased rapidly in the following months, he decided to run the web video production full-time. In 2016 it had a million subscribers, and a year later the number of subscribers had doubled. KsFreaks' repertoire of videos mainly consists of vlogs , filmed pranks , so-called "challenges" and other mostly humorous content.

Dähne has also been a hip-hop musician since 2015 . First he was next to KrappiWhatelse as a guest rapper on the single of the befriended YouTuber ApoRed , the first musical release for all three involved. The song received some negative reactions, but its video has been viewed over 34 million times. In 2016 he released his solo debut single 1 Million . This was similarly successful with 26 million hits, but was received more positively on average. Regular publications of other titles followed. His debut album WhatElse was released in 2017. Although it sold only moderately in Germany and rather poorly in Switzerland , despite its popularity , it managed to climb to number 4 in the charts in its home country Austria . He then focused again primarily on his career as a video artist.

His musical style can be assigned to pop-rap and is mostly based on catchy, sung choruses and rapped verses. Topics he covers include his fame, lifestyle, and gratitude for his fans and supporters.

A few days after his YouTube colleague Manuel Krappinger alias KrappiWhatelse announced in a YouTube video that he had filed for bankruptcy, Dähne also published a video on August 10, 2019 in which he stated that he had high debts. He supported Krappinger's statements that managers and advertising partners had disappeared with money. Furthermore, unpaid taxes, an abusive lifestyle and the cost of their tour are said to have led to his and Krapper's financial problems.

criticism

In 2016, KsFreak had a media feud with the German opinion blogger KuchenTV , which was followed by around 3 million people.

On October 14, 2017, KsFreak released the song No more Respect on YouTube. This is an ironic discourse against other web video producers. A little later, however, the title was blocked on the platform because it was a plagiarism of the song Disrespectful by the rapper G4shi . Dähne did not deny the allegations and said that he was 80% inspired by the song, but he bought the beat legally and designed the track as a German-language cover version . The song has not been officially released since then.

On October 24, 2016 KsFreak hosted on YouTube, a contest in which he announced that his audience had the opportunity to 500 euros and merchandising to win. The condition for this would be a (free) subscription to his channel; the winners would be announced two weeks later. However, the competition was never realized and the topic disappeared from the media.

Allegations of homophobia

In December 2016 he published a video with the title Registered with the POLICE as GAY , in which he announced that his colleague KrappiWhatelse had Dähne registered as his partner in the course of acquiring an emergency passport in order to be able to shoot a video of Vienna in good time to be able to fly to Berlin. Then KsFreak shouted vigorously in the same video "No, I don't want to be that!" This was sharply criticized in the YouTube scene as a homophobic attack.

Two days after the video was published, he uploaded another video in which he read comments and was confronted with allegations of homophobia. He denied the accusation and replied that he was not homophobic and that one could be gay, just not stand behind him while doing so. This also caused criticism.

In the spring of 2017 KsFreak created on Instagram a live stream in which he duke some YouTuber and had the word "gay" used several times pejorative. So he criticized Klengan's format Double Hate Better (now Brainpain ) and asked the question "Are you gay?" He also criticized attacking other YouTubers and categorized this behavior as "gay".

reception

In 2018 Vice magazine named KsFreakWhatElse one of the 100 most annoying characters in Austria . He was particularly criticized for his chauvinistic demeanor, his ego and his lack of self-irony .
