history
Groß-Kniegnitz is one of the oldest settlements in the Nimptscher Land. The place name is of Slavic origin. It was first mentioned in a document in 1208, when Duke Henry I the Bearded Knegnici gave the sand monastery in Wroclaw . In 1209 a church was also mentioned. In 1290 the place is again in princely possession. In the course of the eastern colonization , a street perimeter village was created under German law . In 1349 a document mentions the village of Magna Knegcicz. From 1427 to 1435 the place suffered from the invasions of the Husside .
With the Reformation the church of Groß-Kniegnitz became Protestant in 1530/1534. From 1647 Christoph Steinmetz from Breslau was pastor in Groß-Kniegnitz. In 1679 his son Johann Christoph Steinmetz succeeded him. The church registers begin with the year 1679, but have been lost. The future abbot Johann Adam Steinmetz was born in the village in 1689. In 1702 the church clerk and school teacher Samuel Niepold died. In 1707 the church was returned to the Protestant community after it was temporarily Catholic again. After the First Silesian War , Groß Kniegnitz fell to Prussia and in 1742 became part of the Nimptsch district .
In 1885 Groß Kniegnitz had 1171 inhabitants and 1900 1196 inhabitants. In 1932 Groß-Kniegnitz was assigned to the newly created district of Reichenbach / Eulengebirge . When it was taken over by Soviet troops and the Polish administration in 1945, Groß-Kniegnitz was renamed Księginice Wielkie . The German residents left the place in treks from 1945.
