Kuehn Malvezzi

The architectural office Kuehn Malvezzi was founded in 2001 by Johannes Kuehn, Wilfried Kuehn and Simona Malvezzi in Berlin. The office became internationally known through competition entries and projects for museums and public spaces. The contribution to the competition at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin in 2008 attracted particular attention. The office's critical examination of the reconstruction of the Berlin City Palace was awarded the special prize of the jury and the German Critics' Prize in the architecture category. In 2012 Kuehn Malvezzi won the international competition for the interfaith House of One in Berlin. A synagogue, a church and a mosque are to be built under one roof on the historical foundation walls of Berlin's earliest church on Petriplatz . In 2014 he won the also international competition for the new building of the insectarium in Espace pour la vie in Montreal. Both projects are currently being planned.

history

In addition to numerous museum and exhibition architecture, Kuehn Malvezzi have realized buildings for public and private clients. The most important museum projects include the rooms of Documenta 11 in Kassel (2002), the extension of the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart for the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection in Berlin (2004), the Julia Stoschek Collection in Düsseldorf (2007) and the extension of the Museum Berggruen in Berlin (2012). Kuehn Malvezzi is responsible for the new presentation of numerous historical and contemporary collections, including the Austrian Belvedere Gallery in Belvedere Palace in Vienna, the Liebieghaus sculpture collection in Frankfurt am Main, the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Braunschweig and the Berlin Museum of Applied Arts .

With the Julia Stoschek Collection in Düsseldorf and the Joseph Pschorr Haus in Munich, the office was nominated for the international Mies van der Rohe Award . Kuehn Malvezzi were among the participants in the 10th, 13th and 14th Venice Architecture Biennale (2006, 2012 and 2014), Manifesta 7 in Trento (2008) and the 1st Architecture Biennale in Chicago in 2015.

Wilfried Kuehn has been Professor of Interior Design and Design at the Vienna University of Technology since 2018 . Johannes Kuehn has been teaching at the Bauhaus University Weimar since October 2016 .
