Culture Thursday
The cultural Thursday from 1976 to 2008 was a cabaret series of the adult education center in the north of the district of Munich eV, especially with cabaret , satire , songwriters , but also variety and chanson evenings and newer folk music. The initiator and organizer of the Thursday culture days was vhs director Herbert Becke . He received u. a. the Tassilopreis of the Süddeutsche Zeitung for this committed cultural work .
Since 1981 this series has been carried out in the Garching community center as a subscription on the 1st Thursday of each month. The KuDo had cult status, far beyond the borders of the north of Munich. For the past 25 years, every evening with 750 visitors has been sold out continuously. Unique for cabaret in German-speaking countries. Everything that had "rank and name" in the cabaret scene appeared here. But many of today's "stars" were there for the first time in front of so many spectators. z. B. Django Asül , Willy Astor , Eckart von Hirschhausen or Konstantin Wecker . A total of 247 events with over 156,000 visitors were held.
From 1990 to 2007 an audience award was given once a year: the Garching cabaret mask . A ceramic mask, individually tailored to the respective award winner. The exception was in 2002 when the Garching cabaret mask went to two artists at the same time because the audience rated them equally.
