Herbert Becke (* 1950 in Munich ) is a German cultural worker and photographer .

Life and accomplishments

At the age of 16, Becke founded the Valentinadenbühne in Munich and directed it for five years. After studying adult education at the State University of Applied Sciences in Munich, which he graduated with a degree in social education, at the age of 26 he took over the management of the adult education center in the north of the district of Munich ( Garching near Munich , Ismaning , Unterföhring and Unterschleißheim ). In the 33 years of his tenure, the vhs München-Nord developed into the second largest adult education institution in Upper Bavaria. From 1976 to 2008, Becke built up the series of cabaret cultural Thursdays in the Garching community center. For 14 years, the subscribers' audience awarded the Garchinger Kleinkunstmaske Kleinkunstpreis . He was founder and for many years director of the music schools in Garching (1977) and Ismaning (1978). Becke was the initiator of the “City-Country Talks” and the initiator of the “Kinos im Römerhof” in Garching. Herbert Becke is a lecturer in photography as well as the initiator and head of the “Photo Art Munich” project, organizer of the Munich Photo Days and juror at national and international photo competitions. From 1979 to 1991 he was teaching at the Munich University of Applied Sciences for Social Work. Becke is a board member of the "Saubande", the Valentin-Karlstadt-Förderverein, for the moral and financial support of the Valentin-Karlstadt-Museum .

Artistic work

Becke takes photos with a focus on people and reportage photography. Various exhibitions, such as " Ostfriesland ", "Die Daxen vom Riemerfeld", "Kick-off", "Sylt at any light", "Artist portraits", " Venice , as if we had dreamed ...", "From my point of view", "Eiskanal", "Ismaninger Heads" and "Munich from the bottom up". Herbert Becke worked with photographers such as Rainer Martini, Michael Gnade , Harald Mante , Detlev Motz, Hans Jessel, Dietmar Nill, Michael Martin . He is the founder and initiator of the photo project "down to earth". Becke photographs with the camera directly "on the ground of facts" and thus shows completely new perspectives.
