Kurt-Wolf von Borries (born February 26, 1928 in Bergen , Belgard district , † March 24, 1985 in Cologne ) was a German sculptor and graphic artist.

Life

He came from the noble family von Borries and grew up in Belgard . In 1947 he passed his Abitur in Lübbecke . He then became a student of Gerhard Marcks , with whom he later remained friends and had extensive correspondence, at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and then studied metal sculpture and sculpture at the Cologne factory schools . Since 1951 he lived as a freelance artist. In 1954 he married Marie-Anne Schlieper. The marriage had three children. Von Borries is buried in the new Cologne-Weidener Friedhof on Albert-Kindle-Strasse (Hall 12).

Works

Several works by Kurt-Wolf von Borries can be seen in public spaces. The work ascent is part of the Art Collection from North Rhine-Westphalia in the former Reichsabbey Kornelimünster . The market fountain in Cologne-Ehrenfeld dates from 1957. In 1962 the commissioned work Moses was set up on Bahnhofstrasse in Herzogenrath . The altar, the pulpit, the cross and the coffered ceiling of the Church of St. Trinity in Cologne date from the same year . In 1964, the sculpture was Big reclining man in Düsseldorf zoo park situated at the fauna street. In 1965 he created the Ansgar column that stands in front of the Bremen commercial building. In the same year Kurt-Wolf von Borries designed the altar, the hanging cross, the concrete reliefs on the gallery parapet, the church door and the four altar candlesticks of the evangelical Pauluskirche in Cologne-Dellbrück. The bronze tower portal of the old church in Stommeln and the side portal of the same church date from 1967 . The Bahkauvbrunnen in Aachen was also built in 1967 . In Cologne there is an Icarus sculpture by the artist and a fountain sculpture in the Kartäusergasse at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium ; The sculptures Moses and The Conversation at the Evangelical Church can also be seen in Cologne-Weiden . The Heresbach Chapel in the Willibrordi Cathedral in Wesel has a wrought-iron grille by Kurt-Wolf von Borries. The artist also furnished numerous other churches.
