Kurt Abraham

Kurt Abraham (born November 4, 1921 in Berlin , † December 28, 1988 in Zurich ) was a German jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , band leader ).

Abraham, who came from a musical family, studied at the Berlin University of Music . In 1938 he had his first engagement as a professional musician (with Helmut Zacharias , in the Kurhaus Warnemünde ). He was then active in various dance orchestras and big bands , first in the Delphi Palace with Günter Herzog , then with Heinz Wehner , Horst Winter , Hans Rehmstedt and his Eden-Bar Soloists (1941), Charlie and His Orchestra and Kurt Widmann . Then he was drafted into military service. When he returned from captivity, he played with Kurt Widmann in 1948, and then from 1949 to 1952 a member of the RBT orchestra . He also led his own group. In 1958 he went to Lucerne , where he took over the orchestra from Bob Huber.

Abraham made recordings under his own name for Carl Lindström's Imperial (1942) and Metrophon (1948). He also accompanied Ilja Glusgal with his orchestra and is involved in records by Willy Berking , Walter Dobschinski , Michael Jary , Theo Reuter , Lubo D'Orio , Helmut Zacharias and others.
