Kurt Brenkendorf (born June 13, 1882 in Danzig as Kurt Bockenheuser ; † after 1941) was a German actor in silent films .

Life

Kurt Bockenheuser first completed a degree in civil engineering before he became interested in acting. At the Stadttheater Danzig as well as in Dresden under the guidance of the court actor Adolf Winds he received two years of comprehensive training. Bockenheuser started his stage career under the pseudonym Kurt Brenkendorf in Gdansk in 1903. His subject was initially that of the youthful hero and lover, also during his stage positions in Lübeck , Hanover , Neustrelitz , Ulm and Reval in the Russian Empire and St. Petersburg .

Arriving in Berlin at the beginning of the First World War , Brenkendorf continued his theater work, but soon found a liking for the still young medium of film. From the beginning he was given leading roles, he made his debut as detective Fred Horst in a crime film. Crime series should remain his profession for the time being, Kurt Brenkendorf played the master detective Joe Jenkins in 18 other films .

In 1918 he played together with Conrad Veidt in the films Sacrifice of Society and The Mexican Woman . In Sacrifice of Society , he played the role of factory owner Spinegg . In 1918 he was also seen in the film Schirokko at the side of Margarete Schön . Since 1920 Brenkendorf has been in front of the camera almost exclusively, most recently only in supporting roles. Directed by Robert Wiene , he starred alongside Lil Dagover in the silent film The Hunt for Death . In 1920 he was also seen in a leading role in the film The Spark Call of the Riobamba . In 1930 he played the role of jeweler Sanderson in the silent film Witnesses Wanted .

However, he did not make the transition to sound film. For a long time the sound film had no tasks in store for him, and so in 1930 Kurt Brenkendorf switched to the technical-chemical industry for five years, for which he worked as operations manager. Several small roles - General in Fridericus , waiters in Love Is Strange , Upper in When women are silent - return could Brenke village in the second half of the 1930s before the camera, but after the outbreak of the Second World War had finally ended his film career, and he was hired as a commercial clerk by the company Eugen Heimbucher at the beginning of the 1940s. In the autumn of 1941 his trail is lost.
