Kurt Geibel

Kurt Geibel (born January 26, 1931 in Stuttgart-Cannstatt ; † May 22, 2013 ) was a German chemist and professor of organic chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Life

Geibel studied chemistry from the summer semester of 1951 at the Friedrich-Alexander University and received his diploma in 1961. He then completed his dissertation on the subject of " Spiranes , Oligo-Polyspiranes with Cyclobutane Rings " under the guidance of Prof. Emil Buchta and was awarded a doctorate on July 17, 1963. rer. nat. PhD .

In the following years he worked as a scientific assistant at the "Institute for Organic Chemistry" a. a. in the construction and setup of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In 1970 his habilitation followed and in 1978 he was appointed professor at his university.

In addition to his research, Geibel was actively involved in academic self-administration - from 1981 to 1983 as dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences II, from 1986 to 1990 as vice president and from 1990 to 1992 as prorector of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

In 1994, Geibel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .

Geibel's main research areas were the bridged polycyclic systems and the development and characterization of polymer materials for use in electronics and microelectronics .
