Kurt Geiger (politician)

Kurt Geiger (born September 4, 1914 in Stuttgart ; † October 19, 2009 ) was a CDU politician from Baden-Württemberg .

Political activity

In April 1950 he was employed as an official administrator in the Tuttlingen district , and later he was elected district administrator there. From 1956 to 1962 he also represented the constituency of Tuttlingen in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for the CDU . During his time in Tuttlingen, Geiger devoted himself to renovating the hospital system as well as building schools and roads. He also campaigned for the improvement of the Horb – Tuttlingen railway line . The preparatory work for the construction of the A 81 motorway also fell during his term of office.

In 1962 he resigned from his offices as district administrator and member of the state parliament and joined the state service as ministerial director and head of the interior ministry . He worked in this function until his retirement at the end of March 1978 under the ministers Hans Filbinger , Walter Krause , Karl Schiess and Lothar Späth .

Other offices, honors and awards

Kurt Geiger was honorary chairman of the DRK district association in Tuttlingen for many years. Because of his services to the German Red Cross in the Tuttlingen district, he was made honorary chairman after his departure. From 1977 to 1987 he was President of the DRK regional association in Baden-Württemberg.

He was the holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , of the German Red Cross in 1962 and the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
