Kurt H. Illi (born November 14, 1935 in Lucerne ; † November 22, 2010 in Zurich ; legal resident in Lucerne) was the transport director of the Swiss city ​​of Lucerne for many years .

Life

Illi studied economics at the University of Zurich and then worked for several years as an advertising and communications consultant. In 1978 he was appointed traffic director for the city of Lucerne and held this post for 22 years. The “pop star of tourism” received worldwide media attention after the Chapel Bridge fire . Internationally he was known as “Mister Luzern”. The Liechtenstein fatherland calls him one of the “best sellers” in Switzerland. His legendary advertising campaigns for Lucerne included a bath in a suit in Lake Lucerne or a tie for the water tower that was flown to by helicopter. Illi also opened up the Titlis for weddings for Japanese guests. "Thousands of Japanese couples have since been married in the chapel of Meggenhorn Castle at the gates of Lucerne."

Awards

In 1985 he won the sales promotion award in Switzerland for his efforts in the Japanese market. In June 2003 he received the “Five Star Diamond Award” from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences. He is an honorary citizen of the Japanese city of Yokosuka .
