Kurt Hassebrauk

Kurt Hassebrauk (born December 17, 1901 in Braunschweig ; † July 5, 1983 there ) was a German phytomedicist .

Life

Kurt Hassebrauk studied pharmacy at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In the winter semester 1921/1922 he became a member of the Corps Teutonia-Hercynia . In 1928 he was awarded a doctorate by Gustav Gassner (1881–1955) at the Botanical Institute of the TH Braunschweig. rer. tech. PhD. After completing his doctorate, he remained as an assistant at the Botanical Institute until 1930.

In 1930 Hassebrauk became a scheduled research assistant at the newly founded Institute for Agricultural Botany in Braunschweig , which was renamed the Biological Reichsanstalt for Agriculture and Forestry in 1934 and in 1950 the Biological Federal Institute for Agriculture and Forestry . Interrupted by military service and imprisonment, Hassebrauk continued his scientific work in Braunschweig. In 1951 he completed his habilitation in applied botany . From 1953 to 1955 he was appointed to substitute Gustav Gassner for a chair after he suffered a stroke. In 1958 Hassebrauk was appointed head of the newly created Institute for Botany of the Federal Biological Institute, which was created by amalgamating the Institutes for Physiological Botany and Resistance Testing. He headed the institute until he retired in 1966.

In his scientific work he dealt with the rust diseases of grain . In particular, his extensive work on yellow rust , which he carried out after the yellow rust epidemic in Germany in 1961, should be mentioned here.
