Kurt Hellwig (born June 5, 1890 in Culmsee ; † January 6, 1966 in Schwäbisch Hall ) was a German craftsman and politician (DNVP).

Live and act

After attending primary school in Culmsee (1897–1904) Hellwig learned the carpentry trade from 1904 to 1907 . After that he was taught at the master school in Gumbinnen until 1910 . From 1910 to 1912 he was a member of the Pioneer Battalion 17 in Thorn . After his discharge from military service, he passed the master craftsman examination in Gdansk in 1913 .

From 1914 to 1918 Hellwig took part with the 3rd Field Company of Pioneer Battalion 17 in the First World War, in which he was wounded once and was awarded the Iron Cross I and II class . After the war he took part in the Eastern Border Guard . After being "displaced by the Poles", Hellwig settled in 1922 as a self-employed carpenter in the Riesenburg. He also became a board member of the Elbing Chamber of Crafts.

Hellwig has been politically active in the German National People's Party (DNVP) since the 1920s . For this he was first a city councilor and district council member in the Rosenberg district (West Prussia) . From November 1932 to November 1933 Hellwig sat for two electoral terms as a member of the DNVP for constituency 1 (East Prussia) in the Reichstag . During his time as a member of parliament he voted, among other things, for the Enabling Act of March 1933 introduced by the Hitler government .
