Kurt Hesse (born May 8, 1927 in Großzschepa ) is a former German politician ( SED ) and was mayor of the then medium- sized town of Wurzen from 1974 to 1990 .

Career

After completing 8th grade, Hesse learned the trade of shoemaker. This was followed by military training , labor and military service . He managed to escape the pocket of Breslau and made his way home to the Lossa . He then worked in the profession he had learned until 1952.

Hesse then worked full-time for the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF) and rose to DSF District Secretary in 1956. After a distance learning at the Fachschule für Industrieökonomik Plauen, he became a member of the district planning commission. This was followed by further studies at the technical school for political science "Edwin-Hoernle" Weimar with a degree as a political scientist.

For eight years now, Hesse was the personal advisor to Fritz Geipel , the chairman of the Wurzen district council . In 1973 he moved to the Wurzen city administration as deputy to Mayor Erwin Ahlrep .

mayor

In 1974 Kurt Hesse became mayor of Wurzen - he remained in this post until 1990 and, at 16 years in office, became the longest-serving and at the same time the last mayor in the GDR era.

For the benefit of the city, Hesse was heavily involved in the construction industry and, in view of the lack of housing, created the "triangular relationship" between the city, the company and those looking for accommodation. Numerous new blocks were built, such as 800 apartments in Wurzen Nord II and III as well as three child combinations (i.e. crèche and kindergarten in one building) and the Wilhelm Pieck High School (1975).

The cultural highlights of Hesse's years in office included the establishment of the Joachim Ringelnatz fountain on the market in 1983 and the 1025th anniversary of Wurzens in 1986. The monument protection department was also commissioned with the restoration of the post gate and the re-erection of the post mile column . However, Wurz's mayor could not stop the decline of the historic city center.

Since 1990

From 1990 to 1994 Kurt Hesse was a member of the district council for the SED follow-up party, the Party of Democratic Socialism .
