history

The Stettenburg mill was first mentioned in a document in 1225. At first it was referred to as “molendium sub castro” (mill under the castle), the name Stettenmühle only established later. Like the castle, which was already in ruins at that time, the mill belonged to the Counts of Castell . Unlike the fortification, however, it remained inhabited throughout the Middle Ages. Some legends have survived that have the mill as a theme.

At the end of the Middle Ages, the millers employed by the Casteller counts had to withstand the competition of the so-called "community mill" Obervolkach, the brick mill, which had received some privileges. In the course of secularization , the mill came to the district of Obervolkach, which was assigned to the Volkach district court . The counts, however, retained some civil rights until 1849, such as the first instance court representation in the area of the mill.

The mill came into private hands as early as the 19th century. One of the first owners is the Müller Raab, who sold the mill to the Rieder family before the turn of the 20th century. In the 1980s, the Hörner family owned the mill. In 1967 the function of the mill was given up.
