Kurt John

Kurt John (born September 15, 1923 in Theley , † September 10, 1988 in Saarbrücken ) was a Saarland politician ( FDP / DPS ).

John attended elementary school in Hargarten in Saarland and then the secondary school in Dillingen , where he also passed his school leaving examination. In 1941 he volunteered for the Air Force and completed pilot and officer training at the Air War School in Breslau . Then he was used in the Kampfgeschwader 100 "Wiking" until the end of the war . On May 1, 1944, he was accepted into the NSDAP ( membership number 10.065.143). He was eventually taken prisoner by the Americans, from which he was released in 1945. He then worked as an agricultural helper and driver, from 1947 he was employed in the Dillinger Hütte , and from 1950 he was employed as a technical employee at the Karcher screw works in Beckingen .

From 1950 he became involved in the German opposition on the Saar for accession to the Federal Republic of Germany . He joined the pro-German Democratic Party of Saar (DPS) and was elected to the Saarland state parliament in 1955 . He was a member of parliament until 1970, during which time he was a member of the Landtag Presidium (1956–1957, 1959–1967), 2nd Vice President of the Landtag (1961–1967) and Chairman of the FDP / DPS parliamentary group (1965–1970). After the FDP failed to pass the five percent hurdle in the 1970 election , John found a job in the Saarbrücken State Chancellery .

On July 10, 1975 he was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit.
