Kurt Maier (politician)

Kurt Maier (born May 29, 1925 in Opponitz ; † October 8, 2016 in Uttendorf ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Maier was a member of the National Council from 1971 to 1982 .

Life

Maier attended elementary school in Uttendorf from 1931 to 1936 and then switched to secondary school in Zell am See until 1939 . Then he completed the vocational school and an apprenticeship as a machinist in Uttendorf. He served in World War II from 1942, returning from captivity in 1945. From 1945 to 1982 he was then a technical officer for the Austrian Federal Railways .

Maier joined the SPÖ in 1954 and worked between 1955 and 1964 as a shop steward for the railway workers' union. Between 1965 and 1974 he was deputy district party chairman of the SPÖ- Pinzgau , then from 1974 to 1982 he took over the office of district party chairman. He was also a member of the state party executive between 1970 and 1984 and was also a member of the state party presidium between 1978 and 1982.

Maier also represented the SPÖ from 1959 to 1964 in the Uttendorf municipal council and then held the office of mayor from 1964 to 1989.

Between November 4, 1971 and April 26, 1982 Maier was a member of the National Council.
