Kurt Manthey (born September 12, 1927 ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

The trained striker Kurt Manthey began his high-class football career in 1950 with Tennis Borussia Berlin . With the Berliners , he became Berlin champions straight away in the 1950/51 season and thus qualified for the final round of the German championship . There Manthey played all six preliminary round matches for the purple-whites. And although Tebe was ultimately only able to win one game, a total of 200,000 spectators streamed into the stadium in the three home games against 1. FC Nürnberg , Hamburger SV and Preußen Münster . In the same year Manthey's club was able to win the Berlin State Cup with a 2-1 nV against SC Union 06 .

Also in the 1951/52 season , the violets trained by Fritz Mauruschat won the Berlin championship title. In the final round of the German championship in 1950/51 Manthey was part of the team and even scored one goal in his five games. And even if Tennis Borussia was only bottom of the group as in the previous year and was eliminated as a result, over 225,000 spectators visited the Berlin Olympic Stadium in the games against VfL Osnabrück , VfB Stuttgart and Rot-Weiss Essen .

In 1952/53 , Manthey and his teammates missed defending their title in third place, and in the following season the Charlottenburg team could no longer match their old performances.

In the same year Manthey and his Borussia team once again reached the cup final in front of 20,000 spectators in the Poststadion , which was lost 1-0 to Spandauer SV .

Then Manthey moved to local rivals Hertha BSC . After he was initially not used by coach Paul Gehlhaar , Manthey was in the starting line-up for the first time on matchday three against BFC Südring (3: 1) and henceforth in the starting line-up. Also in the 1955/56 season Manthey played almost all games. After Hertha had landed twice in the table's no man's land under Gehlhaar, Helmut Krüger was installed as the new coach for the 1956/57 season . But even under him nothing changed in Manthey's status as a regular player. At the end of the season, the old lady was even able to surprisingly win the Berlin championship and thus qualified for the final round of the German championship 1956/57 . There, however , the Berlin team started with 1:14 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern under the wheels and the final games against Kickers Offenbach (1: 3) and Borussia Dortmund (1: 2) were also lost. In 1957/58 Hertha BSC had nothing to do with the awarding of the Berlin championship. After the 1958/59 season , which was also not completely satisfied from the club's point of view , in which Manthey was again the undisputed regular player, he ended his active football career at the age of 31.
