Kurt Schuster

Kurt Schuster (born December 1, 1903 in Frankfurt am Main , † February 6, 1995 in Jena ) was a German physicist .

Life

Schuster studied 1922–1923 at the TH Breslau and 1923–1927 physics at the University of Breslau . In 1927 he received his doctorate from the acoustician Erich Waetzmann (1882–1938). phil., 1927–1937 he was his assistant, completed his habilitation in 1936, was a lecturer at the TH Breslau from 1937–1943 and an adjunct professor at the same university from 1943–1945 . 1949–1953 he became a professor with a teaching position at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and was professor with chair and director of the Theoretical-Physical Institute of the University of Jena from 1953 until his retirement in 1969 and at the same time freelance research assistant in the vibration laboratory of the VEB Carl Zeiss Jena.

With his numerous works from different parts of acoustics, Schuster was one of their pioneers in the 20th century. Mention should be made of the derivation of the empirically found Sabine reverberation formula published in 1929 (with E. Waetzmann) and the method for measuring acoustic impedances (Schustersche Brücke 1936).
