Kurt Svanström

Kurt Svanström (March 24, 1915 - January 16, 1996 ) was a Swedish football player . With the Swedish national team took right runners at the World Cup in 1938 in part.

Career

Svanström played from the 1934/35 season for Örgryte IS in the Allsvenskan . With the record champions at the time - the Gothenburg club's titles, however, all resulted from the time before the introduction of the Allsvenskan as the top division - he placed in the middle of the table. At the side of Victor Carlund , Carl-Erik Holmberg , Yngve Lindegren and Erik Granath , he established himself in the regular formation over time and recommended himself for the Swedish national selection, in which he made his debut in June 1937 as part of the qualification for the 1938 World Cup finals. In his first international match, he shone in a 4-0 win over Finland alongside Erik Persson and the two-time successful Lennart Bunke as a goalscorer.

In the following international matches in June, Svanström was one of the players used before he was no longer considered in the second half of the year. Nevertheless, he was part of the team at the World Cup tournament the following summer. At the side of Sven Jacobsson and Erik Almgren , he belonged in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the runner series in the Swedish 2-3-5 system . In the game for third place, which was lost to Brazil , he played alongside Erik Almgren and Arne Linderholm in midfield. This remained his only three internationals in the course of the year, only in 1939 he came to further internationals . After ten games and one goal, the national team career came to an end in the summer of 1939. In the following season of 1939/40 , the Second World War and the associated military service developed to the disadvantage of the club in the spring of 1940: in addition to the drafted Svanström, the regular players Otto Andersson , Harry Zachrisson , Stig Pettersson , Yngve Lindegren and Harry Jansson all missed out on the second half of the season Away games and were sometimes used untrained in the home games. The team had scored twelve points in the first half of the season, they ended the season with 14 plus points on the penultimate place in the table and relegated to the second division. Nothing is known about Svanström's further life.
