Erik Gustaf Valfrid Granath (* October 12, 1910 - March 17, 1971 ) was a Swedish football player and coach. Between 1930 and 1932, the midfielder played three international matches for the Swedish national team .

Career

Granath played in the 1930s for the then record champions Örgryte IS in the Allsvenskan . There he played in the course of his active career alongside Sven Rydell , Carl-Erik Holmberg , Otto Andersson and Yngve Lindegren . The team regularly occupied places in the middle of the table, the greatest success was the runner-up behind the then Stockholm club AIK in the 1931/32 season .

In September 1930 Granath made his debut in the jersey of the Swedish national team when the selection committee of Svenska Fotbollförbundet used him in the 2-2 draw against Belgium . It took almost a year and a half until his second international match, on the occasion of a 7-1 victory over the selection of the Finnish association in May 1932, he returned to the national team. Four weeks later, the representation of the neighboring country was again opponent, in the 3-1 victory he ran for the "Blågula" one last time.

After the end of his career, Granath took over the coaching position at Örgryte IS in the summer of 1943, the club had meanwhile been relegated from the Allsvenskan. As the season runner-up in the west behind Billingsfors IK , he missed promotion with the team and was then replaced by Harry Magnusson . However, this only remained for one season - which also ended with a runner-up - and Granath succeeded his successor. In 1947 he led the team to the relay win, but in the promotion games the Gothenburg club failed to Halmstads BK . After another runner-up in 1948, they parted ways again, and István Wampetits took over as his successor . When the club was in the fight against relegation to the third division in 1951, Örgryte IS committed him again as the successor to his successor. However, the project failed and his commitment ended at the end of the season.

Nothing is currently known about Granath's further life - especially away from the football field.
