Kurt Zotz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Zotz (* 1899 ; † 1958 ) was a German dramatist and lyric poet who is considered a late symbolist. He comes from the Austro-German entrepreneurial and scholarly family Zotz and lived in Konstanz .

Zotz wrote and published both poetry and plays. In addition, he was an employee of the Baden-Baden Kairos Verlag, in whose "Kairos Almanach" he published. Kurt Zotz's work was not without controversy among contemporary literary critics. On the one hand, his style was valued as deep symbolism , on the other hand it was described as "intentionally metaphorical and stilted". Kurt Zotz went beyond pure symbolism, however, in that his dramatic work also contains socially critical elements. In 1949 he received the literary prize of the city of Lahr (Black Forest) . From 1953 until his death in 1958 he was sponsored by the state of Baden-Württemberg . Kurt Zotz was in contact with many writers and cultural workers of his era. The correspondence with the Swiss writer Carl Albert Loosli is in the Swiss Literary Archives . The correspondence with Gottfried Benn and Carl Zuckmayer is in the German Literature Archive in Marbach. Parts of the unpublished manuscript “The Creation” are also kept there.
