Kustaa Tiitu

Kustaa Emil Tiitu (born October 6, 1896 in Lapua ; † July 7, 1990 ibid) was a Finnish politician of the Finnish Center Party ( Suomen Keskusta ), who was an intermittent member of parliament ( Eduskunta ) for 18 years and was temporarily a minister.

Life

Tiitu, the son of a farmer, also worked as a farmer in Lapua after attending high school and was initially politically active in the Landbund ( Maalaisliitto ) founded in 1906 , the predecessor organization of the Center Party. As their representative he was a member of the electoral college in the 1931 , 1937 , 1940 and 1943 presidential elections .

In the parliamentary elections on March 17 and 18, 1945 , Tiitu was elected for the first time as a member of parliament and between June 4, 1945 and July 21, 1958, he represented the constituency of Vaasa-Nord . During this time he was appointed on March 17, 1950 by Prime Minister Urho Kekkonen as Minister of Defense in his first cabinet and held this position until June 16, 1951. At the same time he was again a member of the electoral college in the presidential elections in 1950 and 1956 .

On July 2, 1957, Prime Minister Vieno Sukselainen appointed him minister in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works in its first government and was a member of this until September 1, 1957.

As a candidate of the Center Party, Tiitu was again a member of parliament on March 19, 1965 and represented the interests of the Vaasa constituency in Eduskunta until March 22, 1970 .
