Kyffhäuser mountain run

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kyffhäuser Mountain Run is a fun run in Bad Frankenhausen that has existed since 1979 and is organized in April. The main run has been a marathon since 2003 ("Kyffhäuser Mountain Marathon"). The program also includes runs over 6 km, 14 km and the half marathon distance (these routes are also offered for walkers and Nordic walkers ). Since 2002 mountain bikers have also been able to take part in the event. In 2014, the courses over 64 km, 42 km and 21.5 km belong to their competition courses.

Running tracks

The marathon route is a circular route and initially leads at the foot of the Kyffhauser past the Falkenburg and Barbarossa caves to Steinthaleben . From there it goes up to the Kulpenberg , where the highest point of the route is reached, and then to the Kyffhäuser monument in the ruins of the Kyffhausen Imperial Castle . Over the Dreiforststein and the Seebersbrunnen it goes down to Udersleben and to the destination in Bad Frankenhausen. A total of 668 meters of altitude has to be mastered.

The half marathon leads directly to the Dreiforststein and is then identical to the marathon route. The shorter routes are circular routes north of Bad Frankenhausen.

Mountain bike trails

The route for mountain bikers takes place on the marathon and half-marathon run. The 64 km bikers complete the marathon route followed by a half marathon distance. The 42 km bikers are guided over the marathon route and the 21.5 km bikers over the half marathon route.

history

The model for the Kyffhäuser mountain run was the Rennsteig run, also taking place in Thuringia . Until 2002 the main run was 36 km long. The 26 km route was replaced by a half marathon in 2005.
