Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu Character Song Vol. 9 Kyon
  JP 9 02/21/2007 (12 weeks)

Kyon ( Japanese キ ョ ン , Kyon ) is a figure invented by Nagaru Tanigawa and drawn by Noizi Ito . He is the male protagonist and narrator in the light novel series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu . The character became internationally known through the novel series, a manga series of the same name, the anime television series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and the character single Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu Character Song Vol. 9 Kyon .

Emergence

The character Kyon is a creation of Nagaru Tanigawa . Its external appearance was designed by Noizi Ito . Originally, Kyon should appear as an ESP gifted person. However, after the first drafts, the author decided to portray him as an ordinary student.

His nickname Kyon was given to him at work by his grandmother and spread by his younger sister, who, to his chagrin, never called him Onii-chan ( お 兄 ち ゃ ん , English: "older brother"). His real name is never mentioned in the work. John Smith ( ジ ョ ン ス ミ ス , Jon Sumisu ) is just a pseudonym of Kyon, which he gave himself to hide his identity from the young Haruhi during a journey into the past.

Classification in the works

Although Haruhi Suzumiya is named as the protagonist in the title of the franchise and she is the cause of all events, the plot is told from the perspective of Kyon - the only normal, human club member in the SOS brigade founded by Haruhi . As a male high school student in his first year, he reports with sarcastic comments about the absurdity of the club's activities. He is not aimed directly at the audience, but rather presents an internal monologue . In the light novel it is often unclear whether only his inner thoughts are depicted or whether the words are spoken out loud, as the other characters partially respond to these utterances. Kyon already includes future events in his statements, but without revealing details about them.

Voice actor

In the Japanese original, Kyon was played by the seiyū Tomokazu Sugita . Michael Baral took over his role in the German dubbing .
