KK Kyōto Animation ( Japanese 株式会社 京都 ア ニ メ ー シ ョ ン , Kabushiki-gaisha Kyōto Animēshon ), often also called KyōAni ( 京 ア ニ ) for short , is a Japanese animation studio.

history

The studio was founded in 1981 by Yōko Hatta ( 八 田 陽 子 ) in Uji , Kyoto Prefecture , who had previously gained experience in the Mushi Production studio , which specializes in coloring . On July 12, 1985, it was registered as a company with the legal form Yūgen-gaisha (Ltd.). In 1999 there was a change to Kabushiki-gaisha (joint stock company). Under the direction of Yōko Hatta's husband, Hideaki Hatta ( 八 田 英明 ), the studio has close ties to the producer Sunrise and is the owner of the animation studio Animation Do itself .

Although Kyōto Animation was founded in 1981, the studio had only produced seven of its own anime series and two OVA productions by the end of 2007 . However, the studio was involved in various other productions, of which it mainly relieved the other studios in post-production . As a result, Kyōto Animation was also involved in the production of Kiddy Grade or Inu Yasha .

In 2011, the Kyōto Animation founded the light novel - Imprint KA Esuma Bunko ( KA エ ス マ 文庫 ) and got into the book publishing business. Chūnibyō Demo Koi ga Shitai appeared at the imprint ! , Kyōkai no Kanata , high speed! ( Free! ) And Tsurune - Kazemai Kōkō Kyūdō-bu , which were then adapted as anime by Kyōto Animation.

In contrast to many other anime studios, the employees are permanent employees with a fixed salary. This is also cited as the reason for the comparatively high production values, as it allows the animators to concentrate on quality rather than quantity. In addition, in the works of Kyōto Animation, the characters are more in the foreground than action.

Studio 1 from Kyōto Animation

The suspect himself was also injured and hospitalized. According to witness statements, the perpetrator sprayed a flammable liquid and then set the fire in the entrance area of the building. Of the 70 or so people in the house, some got outside quickly, but others were unable to leave the upper floors in time. The main production line of Kyōto Animation is operated in Studio 1, the office and other studio buildings are located separately in other locations.
