In 2009, the remake Sora o Miageru Shōjo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai ( 空 を 見上 げ る 少女 の 瞳 に 映 る 世界 , dt. “The world is reflected in the eyes of a girl the in the sky ") looks as Anime - television series . Like the two OVAs, the series was also produced by Kyōto Animation.

action

scenario

At the center of the world is a source of energy called Akuto . This was once distributed equally between the world of the earth's inhabitants, also called the "lower world", and heaven. It was in this heaven that Munto was born, whose parents sacrificed themselves for him in order to provide more of the Akuto for him. Shocked by this act and refusing to recognize the new ruler, a civil war breaks out, dividing the empire in two. However, the inhabitants of the sky, who live on floating platforms and have magical abilities, used up so much of the Akuto in a war that lasted for years that their world threatens to fall apart. A vision explains that the "lower world" is the home of the "girl of destiny", who should have the ability to create a balance between the two worlds. Trusting in this vision, Munto, who exists in a parallel world, goes to earth and searches for the girl, while at the same time he has to fight off the attacks in heaven.

However, the inhabitants of the earth do not know anything about the existence of such a kingdom of heaven, since it is not visible to them. Nevertheless, the consequences of the war are also making themselves felt on earth. Individual islands keep falling to earth and causing severe earthquakes. Only Yumemi, the girl of destiny, is able to see the floating islands and, to their sorrow, is thought to be insane by others. The friends who are concerned about her try again and again to dissuade her from surrendering to this world.

Munto

Led by a vision of the prophetess Ryuely, Munto asks the help of the outside guardian of time Gass to find the girl of destiny . With a leap through space and time, he can be successfully brought to the lower earth, while Ryuely and her young apprentice Toche watch his journey. Meanwhile, Yumemi lives the life of an ordinary student who has had the ability to see the floating platforms in the sky from a young age. However, she never succeeded in convincing her friends of the reality of these islands. So their unusual worldview is described as a kind of illness. Since then, Yumemi has always carried an umbrella, even when the weather is nice, in order not to be embarrassed to see this heavenly kingdom.

Unfortunately, Munto, who has already found Yumemi, cannot take her to the other world as a barrier blocks her way. At the same time, he can't convince her that she can transfer her Akuto to the other world, which is necessary to save both worlds. While Yumemi tries to get her problems on earth under control and attends the wedding ceremony of her friend Suzume with Kazuya, she keeps seeing visions of Munto. Weakened by his descent to earth, Munto has to defend himself against the attack of a droid sent by the enemy. He manages to do this with the last of his strength, whereupon he lies exhausted on the ground and threatens to die. In the meantime, one of the islands sinks so threateningly that it becomes visible to Yumemi's friends. Shocked by this, Yumemi tries everything to find Munto. When she succeeds in doing this, she willingly crosses the border between the two worlds and transfers a part of the acute into the parallel world. After Munto has also recovered and returned to his kingdom, Yumemi stopped wearing her umbrella and from then on lived with the certainty that it was not just about illusions.

Munto: Toki no Kabe o Koete

Yumemi, who a few years after the events of the first OVA still likes to look at the sky, has the feeling that something is missing and the visions of Munto are increasing again in intensity and frequency. The reason for this is a wildly broken out war after the Akuto was available again and every country wants to secure its share or full control over it. Although Yumemi would be willing to help, Munto refuses because he foresaw a cruel fate in a vision. Meanwhile, the other warring parties try to get hold of Yumemi. Ultimately, Gass ignores Munto and sends him to earth to search for Yumemi. Concerned for the safety of Yumemi, her friend Ichiko tries by all means to prevent her from looking for Munto on her part, and Yumemi withdraws more and more into herself while staring at the sky and thinking about her own nature. When the entire kingdom threatens to fall to earth, Yumemi decides to intervene one more time. After saying goodbye to all of her friends, she and Munto ascend into the magical kingdom.

Sora o Miageru Shōjo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai

The plot of the anime is an alternate retelling of the two OVA episodes. However, due to the larger scope, this one goes into more detail on certain situations and shows more subplots.
