Clannad ( Japanese CLANNAD - ク ラ ナ ド - , Clannad - Kuranado ) is an anime television seriesbasedon the first section of the Ren'ai adventure Clannad of the same name. The 23 episode series was produced by the Japanese studio Kyōto Animation under the direction of Tatsuya Ishihara . It was first shown on Japanese television beginning October 4, 2007, and was later supplemented by an additional episode that was published as OVA . It was continued in the series Clannad After Story , the plot of which reproduced the second plot section of the game.

The plot is largely comparable to that of the computer game, although not all the storylines of the game have been recorded, or in some cases have only been cut in order to be able to tell a coherent story. The focus of the plot is the student Tomoya Okazaki and his experiences during his senior year at high school. In doing so, he comes into closer contact with five female characters and his school friend Yōhei and experiences various adventures that deal in particular with the girls' past and the family situation.
Origin and publications
On March 15, 2007, BS-i announced the anime series Clannad with a 32-second preview at the end of the last episode of Kanon's second anime series . Clannad was produced by Kyōto Animation and Tatsuya Ishihara was the director . He worked on previous adaptations, Key's Japanese adventure game. The anime is strongly based on the visual model of the computer game. Among other things, the same scene transitions were used. But other elements or allusions to earlier productions can also be found in certain scenes.
From October 5, 2007 to March 28, 2008 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ), the 24 episode series was broadcast on TBS . The main story ended with the 22nd episode. Nevertheless, the 23rd episode continued the plot as a whole and was between the 22nd episode and the announced sequel. On March 27, 2008, various sources reported an as yet unofficial announcement of a successor to the first season that was to be published with the May issue of Dengeki G's Magazine . A 15 second long trailer at the end of the last Clannad episode confirmed the production of Clannad After Story .
Outside of Japan, the series was licensed by Sentai Filmworks for the English-speaking market and first localized and distributed by ADV Films , which released the series on two DVDs on March 3 and May 5, 2009 with English subtitles. When ADV Films gave up the business and handed it over to Section23 Films , they produced an English dubbed version which was released on DVD on June 15, 2010. This version previously aired on The Anime Network on March 25th . Siren Visual licensed the series in English for DVD region 4; H. Australia and New Zealand .
The 24th episode Tomoyo-hen was not shown on television but was released on July 16, 2008 as OVA along with the eighth DVD. It contains an alternate ending to the first series, in which Tomoya and Tomoyo get closer, even though he would only stand in the way of their career as a delinquent. Despite this difficult time in their senior year, the two find each other and the plot stops exactly at the point where it continues with Tomoyo After - It's a Wonderful Life .
In Taiwan, the series was published by Proware Multimedia International and was published there from June 27, 2008. In addition, the series was shown dubbed on Tagalog on the Philippine broadcaster TV5 .
On April 30, 2010, the series was released in Japan on Blu-ray in a box with English subtitles. Despite the high price of ¥ 62,580 (then just under € 500), 38,000 copies were sold in the first week and they fetched 280 million yen (€ 2.3 million), which is about ¼ of total Blu-Ray sales that week of 1 billion yen. According to other sources, it rose to number 3 on the Japanese Blu-ray sales charts.
On September 4, 2014, the German publisher FilmConfect announced the planned release of the series including the bonus episode Tomoyo-hen for Germany, Austria and Switzerland from November 28, 2014 on 4 DVD / Blu-rays. A complete edition of the series including Tomoyo-hen on DVD and Blu-ray followed on October 30, 2015 .

The company TNT Media is responsible for the German synchronization . The German script is written by Reinhard Knapp, who also directs the dubbing . On January 5, 2014, FilmConfect announced that Tanya Kahana would be replaced by Marie-Luise Schramm in Vol. 2 due to a longer stay abroad.

music
The title music Mag Mell - cockool mix 2007 comes from eufonius . It is a remix of the title Mag Mell - cockkool mix which was already released on the third CD of the original soundtrack . The title on the CD itself is a remix of the title music of the game, Mag Mell ( メ グ メ ル , Megu Meru ). A short form of the title Dango Daikazoku ( だ ん ご 大 家族 ) sung by Chata was used for the credits . The melody was taken from Chiisana Te no Hira ( 小 さ な て の ひ ら ), the end of the last section of the game.
