Tamako Market ( たまこまーけっと Tamako Māketto ) the name is a twelve-part anime television series of the animation studio Kyoto Animation in Naoko Yamada directed and the screenplay by Reiko Yoshida was written. The series aired on Japanese television between January 10, 2013 and March 28 of the same year .

In North America , the series was licensed by Sentai Entertainment and was shown there on Anime Network . In the UK , it was broadcast via Anime on Demand . It was implemented as a light novel . In addition, a sequel of the series was produced as a feature film.

The series and the film were also released on DVD and Blu-ray .

Tamako Kitashirakawa is the eldest daughter of a family that is the third generation to run a mochi shop in the Usagiyama shopping district ( う さ ぎ 山 商店 街 Usagiyama Shōtengai ). One day Tamako meets a talking bird named Dera Mochimazzi, who has come to Japan from a distant country to find a wife for the country's prince . After Dera becomes overweight due to the large amount of mochi he eats , he ends up as a parasite in the house of Tamako's family.

The series follows the everyday life of Tamako, her friends, family, neighbors and Dera. The soul life of the character, especially that of Tamako and her best friend Mōchizo, who is secretly in love with Tamako, is also discussed.

Anime

Tamako Market is a twelve-part anime series produced by Kyōto Animation and broadcast between January 10, 2013 and March 28 of the same year on Japanese television, including Tokyo MX . Directed by Naoko Yamada and the script is written by Reiko Yoshida . The artistic direction took Ikuko Tamine ; Yukiko Horiguchi was responsible for the character design. The musical direction was held by Yota Tsuruoka while the music used in the television series was composed by Tomoko Tamaoka .

The song that can be heard in the opening credits is called Dramatic Market Ride ( ド ラ マ チ ッ ク マ ー ケ ッ ト ラ イ ド Doramachikku Māketto Raido ) and was interpreted by Aya Suzaki under her character role Tamako Kitashirakawa. Suzaki also sang the credits song Neguse ( ね ぐ せ Bedhead ) in her role as Tomako.

Light novel

On April 8, 2013, a light novel based on Tamako Market, written by Mutsuki Ichinose and illustrated by Yukiko Horiguchi , was published on KA Esma Bunko .

A light novel was also created for the movie Tamako Love Story.

Movie

On April 26, 2014, Tamako Love Story was a sequel to Japanese cinemas. This was also produced by Kyōto Animation under the direction of Naoko Yamada . The other employees and the voice actors who were involved in the creation of the anime series were also hired to work on the film.

The song in the opening credits is the piece 恋 の 歌 Koi no Uta by Keiji Fujiwara , who, like Suzaki, interprets it as his character Mamedai Kitashirakawa, spoken in the film. A modified version of the theme song Koi no Uta , sung by Aya Suzaki , can be heard in the credits . The official title song is called Principle and was also sung by Suzaki. Sentai Filmworks licensed the film for the North American market.

By May 2014, the movie grossed almost 125 million yen in Japan . Director Naoko Yamada won for Tamako Love Story to the Media Arts Award in the category Best Newcomer ( English New Face Award ) in animation.

Publications

Tamako Market was initially released in Japan on six DVDs, each with two episodes. In addition to the two episodes, the first DVD contained additional extras such as an additional short anime with the title Dera's Bar , pictures, videos of the opening and closing credits without fade-ins, a radio play - and a CD single.

Sentai Entertainment licensed the series for North America , where the anime was shown on Anime Network . Anime on Demand also broadcast the anime series.
