Junko Iwao ( Japanese 岩 男 潤 子 , Iwao Junko ; born February 18, 1970 in Beppu ) is a Japanese voice actress ( seiyū ) and singer .

biography

As a child, she was enthusiastic about the group Akai Tori and Yumi Matsutōya and wanted to become a singer. That's why she left her hometown at the age of 13 and went to Tokyo. As Jun Iwao ( い わ お 潤 , Iwao Jun ) she replaced Yumiko Itaya in the idol group Saint Four . After the group broke up in 1985, she sang nursery rhymes and considered retiring from the entertainment industry. In 1994 she made her debut as a voice actress in the anime Montana Jones . She gained fame as a voice actress through roles in Key - The Metal Idol , Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mojakō , Card Captor Sakura and Perfect Blue . Junko has a wide vocal range and speaks roles from boys to little girls to adult women.

In 1995 she made her debut as a solo singer with Shutter Chance no Renzoku . With Kikuko Inoue , she formed the brief duo Osakana Penguin ( お さ か な ペ ン ギ ン , Osakana Pengin ) - Penguin, because her arms stiffen when excited. On December 23, 1995, she held her first solo concert in the Tōkyō TBS Hall.

In November 1997, she moved from 81 Produce to Starboard. On February 14, 1998, she married the composer Harukichi Yamamoto ( 山 本 は る き ち , Yamamoto Harukichi ; real: 山 本 治 彦 , Yamamoto Haruhiko ), who wrote many of her songs. In November 2001 she was named a special ambassador for onsen tourism by her hometown .

In December 2004 she split from her artist agency Starboard and founded her own with J.Island in 2005.

In May 2007, she and Harukichi Yamamoto were divorced.
