Character singles

The Character Singles are a numbered series of CDs, each dedicated to one of the more important characters from the anime television series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya . Part of each of these CDs was the popular title Hare Hare Yukai , which was interpreted by the associated seiyū under his role name. With the exception of the singles of the three main female characters Haruhi Suzumiya ( Aya Hirano ), Yuki Nagato ( Minori Chihara ) and Mikuru Asahina ( Yukō Gotō ), the texts have been adapted to match the characteristics of the characters. For example, the phrase “nyoro” typical of Tsuruya was incorporated and in Ryōko's text the optimistic expressions gave way to hopeless and destructive poetry. The arrangement has also been changed for the last four releases . The single for Kyon's little sister is very rhythmic, Emiris is very sober and fact-based, Itsukis contains conversations about extrasensory perceptions and Kyons reflected on his confused life. The singles were recorded in the Magic Garden studio. The inlays of the CD sleeves were designed by OverDriveDesign and each showed the character in question in a typical pose.

Haruhi's character single as well as the simultaneously published for Yuki and Mikuru were the most successful character singles of anime characters, each with more than 50,000 copies sold.
