Mikuru Asahina ( Japanese 朝 比 奈 み く る , Asahina Mikuru ) is a figure conceived by Nagaru Tanigawa and drawn by Noizi Ito . She became internationally known as one of the main characters in the light novel series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu , the manga series of the same name , the anime television series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and through several singles that set several new records.

Emergence

The Mikuru, invented by Nagaru Tanigawa , had her first appearance in the light novel Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu , which appeared on June 6, 2003. Their external appearance, however, was designed by the illustrator of the light novel Noizi Ito . When the Kyōto Animation book series was adapted as an anime television series in 2006, its outward appearance evolved under the influence of Shoko Ikeda . It retained its essential characteristics and only individual details and the body proportions were slightly changed.

Classification in the works

As a result of the presence of Haruhi Suzumiya three years before the start of the main plot, the time structure was disrupted, which does not allow time travelers from the future to travel further back than before this point in time. For this reason, the still young Mikuru (her name can also be written as 未来 in Kanji and means "future") was sent back to the past to clarify the causes of this disorder. As a result, she herself is stuck in the past.

In the present, Mikuru is portrayed as an extremely cute girl with childlike naivety that although she comes from the future, she has no special skills and is also completely untalented in sports. Haruhi describes her as "Loli de Kyonyū" (Eng. "Lolita [ie very young-looking girl] with huge breasts"), whose clumsy manner is imposed on her. Since she is only helpless and not responsible for her own misfortunes, she does not do justice to the concept of a dojikko .

Her best friend is her classmate Tsuruya, with whom she works as a waitress at The Acorn . Because of her attractiveness and attraction to the male classmates, she is "arrested" by Haruhi and transferred to the SOS Brigade. As the fourth member of the club, Haruhi repeatedly abuses her for promotions in which she is dressed in sexually stimulating costumes that she wears against her own will. Her very shy and shy personality is of no help to her , as only Kyon is concerned about her state of mind, but cannot do anything about the escapades. Nevertheless, Mikuru builds up a close relationship with the Kyon, who is worried about her, but keeps a certain distance so as not to provoke a special reaction from Haruhi, who might be in love with Kyon. Also concerned about the future, it does not disclose any information about future events in order not to additionally change the passage of time.

Mikuru's older self

At times, due to the different time travel, there is also an older Mikuru within the same time. Like her younger self, she does not reveal much information about the connections and the future. In addition, she has the condition that she must not run into herself, analogous to the characters from Back to the Future . Nevertheless, there are minor paradoxes. Her older self told Kyon about a small birthmark in the shape of a star on her chest that she had never noticed until he asked her younger self about it to find out whether it was really the same person.

In the light novel, Kyon only addresses both characters as Asahina-san, but different spellings of their name tell them apart. A “big” ( ) or “small” ( ), corresponding to the older and younger self, was written to distinguish between them.

Voice actor

In the Japanese original version, Mikuru was played by the seiyū Yūko Gotō , who is known for playing innocent Moe characters. She herself said in an interview that she saw Mikuru as more than a typical Moe character. Because of this, she wanted to portray Mikuru as a person from the future with a mission that is clumsy, but with some intelligence and methodology.

Kathrin Neusser dubbed her role in the German version .
