National Wild and Scenic River

The Wind River is a 129 km long right tributary of the East Fork Chandalar River in the interior of Alaska .

It rises on the continental divide in the Philip Smith Mountains , a mountain range in the Brooks Range , flows south and flows into the East Fork Chandalar River.

The entire course of the Wind River including an unnamed tributary in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (a total of 225 river kilometers) was designated as a National Wild and Scenic River by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980 .
