Yuki Nagato ( Japanese 長 門 有 希 , Nagato Yuki ) is a figure conceived by Nagaru Tanigawa and drawn by Noizi Ito . She became known internationally as one of the main characters in the light novel series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu , the manga series of the same name , the anime television series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and through several singles .

Creation and external appearance

Yuki had her first appearance in the light novel Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu which appeared on June 6, 2003. She is one of the main characters in the book series and was conceived by the author Nagaru Tanigawa . Their external appearance, however, was designed by the illustrator of the light novel Noizi Ito . When the Kyōto Animation book series was adapted as an anime television series in 2006, its outward appearance evolved under the influence of Shoko Ikeda . It retained its essential characteristics and only individual details and the body proportions were slightly changed.

Her outward appearance is that of a slim girl, wearing glasses, with very light skin and gray to purple-colored short hair. In almost all situations she wears her school uniform and is busy reading a book. Only when the action is advanced and after a conversation and Kyon's determination that she would look much cuter without glasses does she lastingly renounce this “superfluous accessory ” for her .

Classification in the works

Created by the Integrated Data Entity as a "human interface" (an alien ), Yuki is supposed to monitor the activities of Haruhi Suzumiya and, if necessary, keep them under control, without exerting any great influence on the world. Because of its origins, it has many abnormal abilities that it uses extremely sparingly. For example, Yuki can change the properties of all things in their immediate vicinity, which Kyon calls "Bogus magic" (sham magic). For example, she manipulated a baseball game so that the ball alone sought out the bat or avoided it.

personality

Introduced as the last remaining member of the reading club, she is very introverted and bibliophile . Her spokeswoman Minori Chihara described Yuki as a difficult role, as she had played a lot of feminine and energetic characters as seiyū and had to get used to the taciturn and introverted nature of Yuki. At the same time, she describes Yuki as a person who reacts “cool” and exudes a strong inner calm. She would never have played such a character in her long career.

With regard to social norms and human technologies, she leaves a very inexperienced impression, but gets to know and use them within a few minutes. A parallel draws between her attempt not to interact with Haruhi's actions and her social isolation.

Voice actor

In the Japanese original, Yuki was played by the Seiyū Minori Chihara. Julia Meynen took on her role in the German dubbing .

Yuki got manga magazine Young Ace its own series called Nagato Yuki-chan no Shōshitsu . It is drawn by Puyo , who also draws the parody Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yūutsu . This is based on the alternative world shown in the fourth volume of novels or its film adaptation Suzumiya Haruhi no Shōshitsu . An anime adaptation ran in 2015 and was released in German under the title Das Disappearance of the Yuki Nagato or Das Disappearance of the Nagato Yuki-chan .

Yuki has also made cameo appearances in various other works . In Lucky Star , for example, she appeared as a waitress, along with other characters from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya , in the 16th episode.
