August Herzmansky

August Herzmansky (* 26. June 1834 in Odrau , then Austrian Silesia ; † 5. December 1896 in Vienna ) was an Austrian businessman and retail - entrepreneur and founder of the department store Herzmansky .

Life

Herzmansky, who came from a weaving family, came to Vienna in 1848 and completed his business apprenticeship in a grocery store . After his acquittal , he joined a ribbon and lace factory and subsequently went into business for himself in 1863 with a textile shop on Kirchengasse in the Neubau district . In December 1881 the business moved to the premises at Stiftgasse 1 and was subsequently expanded into a department store. Herzmansky died shortly before the opening of a large extension to the department store. He is buried at Hadersdorf-Weidlingau cemetery in Vienna's 14th district.

Herzmansky also emerged as a patron : for example, for the company's 25th anniversary, he donated a convalescent home for children in Weidlingau-Wurzbachtal .

He was in the 14th district of Vienna in honor Penzing the Herzmanskystraße named.
