Kytes ( spelling : KYTES ) is a German indie band from Munich , which emerged in 2015 from the formation Blind Freddy . She won the New Music Award in 2016 . The music is described as a mix of indie and electro pop .

history

The four founders of the band Michael Spieler ( vocals , electric guitar ), Timothy Lush ( drums ), Kerim Öke (guitar, keyboard ) and Thomas Sedlacek ( electric bass , synthesizer ) have played together under the name Blind Freddy since the late 2000s . In May 2015 the band changed their name to Kytes. A little later, the single Inner Cinema was released , for which they received the Song of the Year award from the University of Canberra, endowed with 10,000 Australian dollars . This was followed by the single On the Run , for which a music video was shot in Brighton . In November 2015 the EP On the Run was released by Lichtdicht Records , the Milky Chance label . In September 2016, the debut album Heads and Tales followed on Filter Music distributed by Sony Music . In December 2016, Kytes won the New Music Award.

Since 2019, they have officially been the sponsors of the Fürstenfeldbruck technical and vocational school at “School without Racism, School with Courage”.

style

Kytes names bands such as Foals , Phoenix , Two Door Cinema Club and Tame Impala as musical influences . The music combines electric guitars with catchy song structures and electronic music. Drummer Timothy Lush is from Australia and is responsible for the English lyrics .
