Léonard Misonne
Léonard Misonne (* July 1, 1870 Gilly ( Charleroi , Belgium ), † September 14, 1943 ) was a photographer and was extremely well-known in the avant-garde circles of art photography during his lifetime. Stylistically, he orientated himself exclusively on pictorialism of the turn of the century and dedicated himself in particular to the visual artistic effects of light and the atmospheric moods associated with it. For the visualization of his ideas he mainly used photographic high-quality printing processes , in particular bromine oil printing . His tendency towards impressionistic blurring later earned him the name “ Corot of Photography”.
Life
Léonard Misonne was the youngest of seven children of the lawyer Louis Misonne and his wife Adèle Pirmez.
He finished his engineering studies at the Catholic University of Leuven with the exam, which he passed with distinction. In 1895 he received his diploma, but he never practiced his profession. He preferred to devote himself to painting , playing the piano, and especially photography .
As a student in Leuven from 1891, Misonne was an enthusiastic amateur photographer, from 1896 he devoted himself entirely to landscape photography, financially independent .
Extensive travels took him to France , England , Germany and Switzerland . His pictures, however, come from the Belgian coast or from Holland , from the Belgian cities of Ghent and Antwerp and from the immediate vicinity of his residence.
He suffered from severe asthma ; He succumbed to this ailment on September 14, 1943 .
