Léopold Reichling (born March 11, 1921 in Luxembourg ; † May 2, 2009 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourg botanist who also published zoological and nature conservation works and brought together an important collection of Stone Age artifacts from Luxembourg.

Life

Léopold Reichling began his career in 1949 as a biology teacher at the Lycée de Garçons in Luxembourg. In 1957 he became professor of botany at the Cours Supérieurs de Luxembourg . Reichling is regarded as the pioneer of Luxembourg phytosociology and an eminent researcher of Luxembourg flora. After his retirement in 1981, he also worked intensively on investigating the Luxembourg bedbugs.

He was president of the Société des naturalistes luxembourgeois (SNL) (1962–1968) and the nature conservation organization Natura . In 1997 he was awarded the Hëllef fir d'Natur award in recognition of his services to scientific research and nature conservation in Luxembourg.
