Peter Bruhn (born September 3, 1926 as Hans-Peter Bruhn in Wernigerode ; † August 4, 2009 ) was a German librarian and bibliographer with a focus on literature from and about Russia / USSR / CIS.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1946 at the Fürst-Otto-Gymnasium in Wernigerode, Bruhn completed a degree in Slavic , English and library studies from 1947 at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , which he completed in 1952 with the state examination. After a short teaching activity at the Martin Luther University, he began training as a trainee lawyer for the higher academic library service in Berlin at what was then the Public Scientific Library (later the German State Library). Because of his involvement on June 17, 1953 , Bruhn had to leave the GDR. He continued his education at the Free University in West Berlin and joined the Eastern European Institute there in 1956, from which he left when he retired in 1991.

As part of the Eastern Europe Institute, Bruhn founded the documentation center for literature from and about Russia / USSR in 1956 and in 1979 took over the scientific management of the institute's library. Under his leadership, the regional scientific database RussGUS was created , which contains bibliographical evidence of German-language literature with reference to Russia, the USSR and their successor states for the years 1974 to 2003.
