Club career

Lê Công Vinh began his career in the youth department of the PVFC Sông Lam Nghệ An . From 1998 to 2004 he played there for the juniors before he got a contract with the seniors. For this he played four years until the end of the 2008 season. After the end of the season he moved to the V-League promoted T&T Hà Nội . The development of the bill was followed extensively in the Vietnamese media. Vinh had already agreed on a contract with the Thể Công club , but at the last minute accepted the offer from T&T Hà N ,i, which guaranteed him a higher salary. The transfer fee was 400,000 US dollars , which was the highest transfer fee within the V-League until then. Vinh received a three-year contract. The season was very successful for him. With the team he was runner-up in the 2009 V-League season and scored 14 goals. This earned him 2nd place in the scorers list. In August 2009, his club announced that Vinh will be loaned to the Portuguese first division club Leixões SC for four months . The loan began on September 1, 2009. The loan fee was $ 100,000. Both clubs agreed to work together later. Lê Công Vinh made two appearances in the Portuguese first division and one in the cup. He returned after four months. In January 2012, he moved to league rivals Hà Nội ACB . After a year and mediocre success, he moved to his hometown club Sông Lam Nghệ An. After a year as top performer and captain, Sông Lam Nghệ An and Consadole Sapporo, a Japanese second division team at the time, agreed on a two-year swap deal. After these two years he moved to Becamex Binh Duong, where he will also play in the AFC Champions League in the 2016 season .

National team career

His career in the Vietnamese national team began for him in the U-20 . From 2003 to 2007 he played for the U-23. His first major tournament was the Southeast Asian Games in 2003. With the team he reached the final, but failed at arch-rivals Thailand . In 2004 he was in the national team for the first time. On August 20, 2004, in the game against the Myanmar national soccer team , he scored his first two goals for the national team. In the same year he took part with the team in the 2004 ASEAN soccer championship . In the course of the tournament he scored four goals. In the group game against Cambodia , he managed a hat trick in the second half . Further participation in major tournaments followed for him, both with the U-23 and the adult team. With the U-23 he took part in the Asian Games in 2006 and the Southeast Asian Games in 2007. After participating in the 2007 ASEAN football championship with the seniors , he made his breakthrough to become a star at home at the 2008 ASEAN championships. He scored two goals in the entire tournament. This, however, he achieved in each of the two finals. In the first leg of the final against Thailand, he scored 2-1 for his team in the 42nd minute. In the second leg he scored 1-1 in stoppage time, which meant Vietnam's first title at the ASEAN championships. In 2014 he and his team reached the semi-finals of the ASEAN football championship, in which they were eliminated 2: 2 and 2: 4 by Malaysia.
