The company was founded by Otto and Frieda Frenzel, who founded the first vinegar and mustard factory in Metz in 1903 . As an innovation, the company filled the mustard into jars instead of earthenware pots under vacuum . In addition to various classic types of mustard, specialties such as Altbiersenf, fig mustard and other variations are offered today. The product range is supplemented by mustard creams, which are used to season roulades and meatballs .

The mustard is produced in the company's buildings near Düsseldorf Airport . In the old town of Düsseldorf lion Mustard and Düsseldorf's brands also is ABB and Radschläger sold in their own shop. There is also an exhibition of historical mustard pots and other accessories, which is known as the mustard museum .

history

On November 1, 1903, Otto Frenzel founded the first Lorraine vinegar and mustard factory in Metz . As a result of the First World War, the company relocated under the name Neue Düsseldorfer Senfindindustrie Otto Frenzel to the Mostertstadt Düsseldorf in 1920 . The factory was operated on the property at 127 Himmelgeister Strasse. In 1936, after Otto Frenzel's death, his widow Frieda Frenzel continued the factory under the name of Düsseldorfer Senfindustrie O. Frenzel .

Otto and Frieda Frenzel had three sons. The two older ones died of pulmonary tuberculosis . The third son died in 1945 in World War II . In 1948, production was resumed after the interruption in World War II. In the mid-1960s, Löwensenf took over the two old Düsseldorf mustard manufacturers ABB and Radschläger . Until then, Radschläger belonged to the owner von der Heiden.

Because she had no heirs, Frieda Frenzel finally donated her company shares to a foundation. The Düsseldorfer Löwensenf GmbH and the Munich Develey Senf & Feinkost GmbH have been cooperating since 2001 . They had mutually acquired shares in the company, and since then Develey has jointly sold them. In 2001, the Düsseldorfer Löwensenf GmbH was completely taken over by Develey and has since acted as its subsidiary with its own production facility in Düsseldorf-Lichtenbroich . A domination and profit transfer agreement with Develey Senf & Feinkost has existed since November 6, 2002 .

On February 17, 2014 Düsseldorf was deleted from the company name and the company shortened to Löwensenf GmbH .
