Lütje (Lüdecke) Michaelis , in Low German Lütje Micheels , (actually Lütje Behnken ; * 1841 in Anderlingen , † 1918 in Sittensen ) was a German teacher and organist who served as a model for the protagonist in the book of the same name by his son Heinrich Behnken . Heinrich Behnken received the Fritz Reuter Prize for the novel in 1955 .

Before visiting the preparatory institute in Stade , Micheels had already worked as a teacher in Meinstedt and as a sub-teacher in Sittensen for half a year . Then he was preperand in Osterholz until he attended the teachers' college in Stade.

This was followed by activities in Lehe and Ahlerstedt until he became principal teacher, sexton and organist in Sittensen in 1887.

Lütje Micheels died during the flu epidemic after the First World War .

The path of his life was partially changed for the novel, for example Sittensen's name was Westerholz .
